Located in Chingford, Northeast London, this proposed remodelling of an existing retail parade provides extended and upgraded retail units at Ground Floor level with residential units above. Removal of the existing timber roof allows for the inclusion of 9 additional duplex units within 2 additional storeys providing 17 new homes. Residential units are accessed from a communal shared garden at the rear and all units have their own private external space in the form of winter gardens or terraces. Extensive reuse of existing building fabric makes use of embodied energy and all residential units are dual aspect, utilising natural ventilation and maximising natural light. Improvements to the quality of the retail units make full use of available floor space while addressing the quality of the shop frontage. Both aspects of the scheme combine to rejuvenate a significant corner site in the local area.
